Not able to make wooden tools out of Nether wood.

Hello, I recently downloaded the 1.16 beta from xbox insiders hub and it was going great. Then I decided to create a new world where my friend and I started in the Nether, from scratch and tried to escape back to the over-world. Very quickly, I realized something was wrong, the new crimson and warped wood apparently could not be used to create anything at all besides a crafting table. I deleted and reinstalled the beta but nothing worked. Hopefully this will be fixed because I want to do escape the nether worlds in the future. Thanks!
