Overworld is brighter than ususal coming out of the Nether.

After staying in the Nether for many in-game days, I returned to my home nether portal and came to a very bright overworld. Night seemed like day, only made out by the stars in the sky. Caves were also brighter. I haven't been effected by night vision, so I'm not sure what happened.
