Blocks delete as new ones placed

As I place fences older blocks above me delete, I haven't tested this on my older device but it does this on the newer device.
Is there a block limit to what the user can place?
Also entities such as torches and rails just float once these blocks disappear however the blocks are still there as shown in a screen shot but the texture just disappears by what I can see.
Please help..

(you can break the invisible block as the highlight still shows but when you place the block again it's invisible still)
