Can't exit the end via the gateway if your respawn is set to a respawn anchor

After setting my respawn point to the respawn anchor in the nether, I found that I am unable to exit through the gateway that the dragon dropped, meaning I am stuck in the end or will have to suffocate in the void to escape.
