Can eat anything even when not hungry

When playing local multiplayer with my brother(He was the host and he is on Nintendo Switch, cross platform LAN play) I could eat a cake when not hungry. Then I tried with a few more different food items, I could eat them. They got consumed but I didn't fill any hunger because I wasn't hungry.
