Fortune 3 failure to operate correctly

I currently have a fortune 3 unbreaking 3 iron pickaxe. I have been carefully mining diamonds and coal one by one to check if multiple ores are dropped. But for the last 64 or so blocks I have mined each block has only produced one item. The statistical probability of a fortune 3 pickaxe giving single drops 64+ times in a row is almost none.
