get killed before nether can finish loading and when i respawn game softlocks

any time I enter my nether portal I get attacked by magma cubes before the loading screen even finishes, afterwards when the game attempts to respawn me it freezes at the building terrain screen. its effectively impossible for me to even enter the nether at this point.
