Crafting Table error

When I try to use the crafting table on Survival mode, even though I have the materials needed to craft what I want, the craft recipe doesn't show up to craft the item. I find that if I break the crafting table and place it back down, I can then find the item in the recipe book and craft it.

 

Your help with this error would be much appreciated.
