Performance issues

Ever since 1.4.0 i have massive server Performance issues. Every time i render a chunk it takes ~3 minutes wich makes it always unplayable. It kindof remembers me to a programm lagging from a for loop. The lag is weak first, but then its not even able to render the gui untill its done rendering. Both setting down rendering distance and installing a 4x4 texture pack didnt help
