Torch light on opposite wall disappears when chunks unload and are reloaded

I mine in 2x2 tunnels and place torches on one side of the tunnel. After moving far enough away from a tunnel and coming back, it is completely dark on the tunnel wall opposite the torches and torches have to be placed to update the lighting.
