Game crashes 50% of the time

Half the time I play, after a few minutes of gameplay the game will suddenly stop loading one plane of each block and become transparent. So if I am facing the direction of the missing planes I can see caves, mobs, structures, etc I shouldn't be able to see. I can see entire cave systems underground even. Then when I try to save and quit, it just shows the loading graphic for a long time and won't give me the menu. So I have to close the app and reopen it rather than properly saving and quitting. When this happens I know that I am about to lose items as well. For instance if it happens while I'm on a boat it will take my boat away when I close and reopen the game. This last time I played it happened twice in a row and took a boat and a dog away each time. It was super frustrating because I went 3,000 blocks from my base to get 2 dogs and they both vanished when the game crashed. I will say this happens generally when I am traveling and not near my base.
