Can't update packs and single player lag.

When I go to my downloaded packs, a couple say they have updates available, but when I click update then nothing happens. It doesn't start downloading or anything. Also, when I'm playing single player, I get a lot of lag where it takes a few seconds for blocks to disappear or be placed. I have never played multiplayer so I don't know if it happens there.
