capes wont show up unless you reload the game

The problem is when i log on Minecraft and go put my skin on not only does it turn from what it was to Steve or Alex but when i go and change it back and ad the founders cape it wont show up its on my skin i know that because when i go in a world and put elytra on there hot pink
