kill @e[name=iron_ore] doesn't work me help please

So I was working on a instant smelting pick, then I wanted to kill the iron ore and teleport the iron ingot to the location of the ore, but then I could not kill @e[name=iron_ore], is this a bug or is it just my tags were wrong?
