Cannot move fast in any direction without juddering. Including flying in creative.

I cannot fly or run in any direction without juddering. Trying to fly upwards in creative causes my character to plummet to the ground. Really difficult to get anything done. I have tried logging out and in again, tried turning computer off and on and nothing seems to work.
