I am told that I am out of storage space when I have many gb of free storage

Whenever I reach an unknown limit (around 1gb), I am removed from my world and a message is displayed that reads "You are almost out of space! Minecraft has restricted access to this feature until you clear up additional space. I have 27 gb free on my internal storage on my switch and over 50gb of free storage on my micro sd card.
