Is this normal?

I have a problem.

I THOUGHT...

The game would let me be my custom skin and my friend be theirs.

BUT THEN...

To him I had his skin(Pumpkin) and to me he had my skin (Front=Steve Back=Monster)

HOW TO DO IT:

1. Start a level and play with one friend
2. Have both be their own custom skin(in classic skins)
3. Look at each other
