Inventory items, but not armor and offhand items disappeared on death.

So I was playing on my world with my friends and I fell from a high place. When I returned to my stuff, only my offhand items and my armor were on the ground. I looked all over the place for my inventory items, but there was nothing. This might just be me being dumb, but I definitely think that the rest of my stuff disappeared on death.
