Auto Saving doesn't save, crashes the game

Whenever the game auto saves, it seems like it doesn't. The auto save icon never goes away, and when I save and quit, it never saves and quits. The game stays on the save and quit screen forever (left the console turned on and it lasted 8 hours, the console ran out of charge first). Hours of progress are lost. I have to close the game, and when I do, it tells me that the game crashed
