Falling to death at respawn in 1.13 bedrock edition

I have made an area that has been dug to the bedrock of the game. I have a bed down there, and it has been my spawn point. The area has a village. I died while being attacked by a raid. I'm suddenly respawning at the origin altitude. The game is in survival mode, and has been since its origin. I still get achievements. I have no intentions of switching to creative, but am unable to survive the fall at my current respawn.  I have closed the game, restarted the xbox. I've tried copying the world. I'm out of ideas. Please tell me there is a fix for this. Thanks.
