Observer Block "Error" in Minecraft Pocket Edition

I was watching a video tutorial of Minecraft that used the observation block. I tried to do it in my Minecraft Pocket Edition, but it didn't work, because in the tutorial,the observation block activated a piston that was 1 block away, and in MCPE, only activates the piston if it is on the side of the observation block.
I don't know if Minecraft on the other platforms is like this too (because I don't have another platform), but if the error is only on MCPE, please fix it
