Game occasionally freezes when entering the settings menu

This happens only when I'm in a world. When I open the settings menu, it sometimes causes the game to freeze. There is nothing I can do except exit to the home menu. When I try closing the software from the home menu, it takes 30-45 seconds for the game to close. When it does, a message then pops up that says: "The software closed because an error occurred." It makes no sense because the software is already closed.
