Skin displays as Steve on every login

Hi, on every login, my skin displays as the Steve skin even though I have my custom skin equipped. My custom skin is displayed fine in the character editor and is shown as equipped, however on every login I have to manually unequip and re-equip the custom skin otherwise it just shows as Steve on the menu screen and in game.
