Using furnace yields no experience

Cooking or smelting isn’t producing any XP, at least for those items I have tried - iron and gold ore, all meats (beef, lamb, pork chop, chicken, salmon, cod), and when burning wood for charcoal. I cooked 1,280 raw beef and didn’t get one single experience point for the lot. The problem only started when I downloaded the latest update; prior to this it was fine.
