Unable to update realms and mc in general

When I try to play on my friends realm, it says “could not connect: outdated client. Realms has updated.” I then go to update in the app store, however it says that it will be updating to version 1.13. This is very confusing as I was playing on 1.14 only a few days ago. I decided to update anyway, so I put my password in to update but instead of the blue ring appearing, showing that it’s updating, it just says update again. When I opened minecraft again, it said I was on version 1.12 and I don’t want to open any of my 1.14 worlds as this might corrupt them. Some advice would be very helpful. Thank you.
