Cannot drop or destroy blocks in a specific area

I can't aim where I want to drop or destroy blocks. This just started  today. Not sure if a faulty update went out? I went to place blocks in a specific area but I couldn't put them where I wanted by touching the spot I wanted them to go. The same is true for destroying blocks. This just started today and was an issue as soon as I opened the app. I am using an Iphone 10R and am running Minecraft V1.13.0

BYW - this is a very painful website to navigate on a phone
