Lag spikes and wolves wont breed

I tried to breed a couple tamed wolves and they got the hearts like normal, but instead of making a pup or anything and they wouldn't move while they had the hearts.. They didnt I tried three different times. I as also experiencing severe lag spikes when I was leaving the pause menu and when turning or doing simple task. I tried a little trick I learned, which is use flint and steel to make a fire then throw something in, and if it doesn't make the normal burning noise of the entity burning it means there is a bug.
