Generating world on friends server

Whenever I try to enter one of my friends' worlds on iOS, it always says "generating world", loading server, but on my friends iPad, it says I have joined the game but my screen has not changed. I tried resetting my iPad and closing the app and re-entering the world but it still doesn't work, and it still gets stuck on the loading screen.
