Irregular App Close and Slow Menu

When minimising the app i cannot open it again without it crashing. I then have to reload from scratch, this never used to happen as i could minimise and then open it up and carry on as usual. This causes the last 30 seconds of play to be deleted. My friendly mobs (animals) now also de-spawn which i'm sure is connected with the crash on shutdown/startup. Returning to play now involves a complete re-load.

Any help would be great!
