Flint and Steel doesn't light

I was just wandering my house and I had just made a flint and steel and I thought that I wanted to light a tree on fire, just for the heck of it. I got close enough to the tree and touched it - yet, to my disappointment, it didn't. I don't know if this is fixed in 0.5.0, but Thanks.
