Can't feed horses regular food

There's no apparent way to feed horses on my Bedrock-PC version. I've been unable to feed 2 horses, one injured and one at full health. They are attracted to wheat, sugar and apples but using my right-click only makes me mount and ride the horse. There was one very rare occurrence where I thought the game broke because it worked! However, that was 1:1,000+ attempts where I fed it instead of mounting.
