Lantern always prefers to connect downward, even when looking upwards (placing against adjacent block)

The bug

When clicking on the side of a block with support above and below, a lantern is supposed to connect to the nearer support. However, it always chooses to connect downward.
If only one support is available, it works fine.

How to reproduce

1. Build this setup
    
2. Place the lantern by aiming at the yellow region (specifically, place it while looking above the horizon)

Expected results: Lantern is placed hanging, connected to the block above

Actual results: Lantern is placed on the block below
