Maps missing from item frames?

So basically I had put some of my locator maps in item frames to keep them out of the way while I go mining. But when I had came back some of them were missing. Now I might have moved them and lost them without realising or they have despawned. I honestly don’t get how this happened so _emphasized text_if it’s either a bug or me being stupid.
