Can create entire block of material with only 1 brick / diamond

What I expected to happen was...:
Have to have proper amount of metal bricks or diamonds to make a block

What actually happened was...:
I can create a block for each single metal brick or diamond (only need 1 to make a whole block of each)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a single brick of iron, gold or single diamond in crafting table
2. Create a block of that material - without having more than 1 brick (usually need what, 9?)

*ALSO NOTE:*
When crafting bone meal, there is an improper amount of bones showing when utilizing the crafting table. EG: I have 18 bones in my inventory, but when I click on bone meal creation , to the right it says "99+/1" as if I have more than 99 bones in my inventory.
