Loss Nether progress

I have been playing for many hours in the nether making ice bridges to link portals, once I finish, I go to the overworld for a moment and when I return to the nether all my progress and my hours of play went to waste, all the ice that I put was replaced by the netherbricks already set by default and everything mine was also replaced, mi pickaxe still with damage and also loss my ice
