Dogs & Cats Getting Locked

Every time I tame a new wolf or stray cat from a village and leave the world and come back, my dogs and cats are locked when they're sitting. I can still feed them, put leads on them, even still push them around, but I can't get them to stand up at all. If I hit one of my cats it jumps up and runs off, but immediately goes back to sitting. Would playing with "experimental gameplay" contribute to this?
