Horse disappeared when the game shut down

I tied my horse to a post, got on a boat and moved maybe 20 blocks. The game crashed and said it shut down because of an error. When I opened it back up, I was halfway down a mountain. Before, I had been on the mountain with my horse, but now I was without him. I went forward to where I had been before the game shut down, and the post and lead were there but my horse was gone. I searched the area but it didn't appear to be anywhere. It seems to have just disappeared when the game crashed.
