Crafting table says I have more things than I have in my inventory

What I expected to happen was...:
When I created things in the crafting table it would give me as much as it said and showed it
What actually happened was...:
When I created things in the crafting table it showed that I had 99+ when I only had 3 or 4 in my inventory
