Player Death Within Loading Chunks

The bug occurred when my character was swimming in a body of water. Some unloaded chunks appeared, and my character swam through them. The area surrounding my character went dark, similar to in-game suffocation, but my characters hand was still visible. This lasted for around 1 second, and then my character died instantaneously. The game displayed no death message after my character re-spawned.
All of my items were lost, as I was too far away after re-spawning.
