Pillager raid sad ending

I got a pillager raid. I died a few times but eventually i beat the raid. However it was at night when the villagers were sleeping so they didn't celebrate. The next in-game morning the "Hero of the village" effect did nothing. Not only that but they were treating me BADLY. I don't think that is a good reward for saving a village...
