Flying in Survival

I was playing with a friend, my friend was in creative, however I was in survival, he gave me an elytra, I double tapped the spacebar to use the elytra, but instead I started flying, I don´t know how it happened, but I left the world and entered back, and now i couldn´t fly, could you found why it happened please?
