With Wi-Fi, I’m logged into Xbox Live automatically. Without Wi-Fi, the game crashes.

Sometimes, my Wi-Fi goes out, so I want to play some Minecraft. This worked perfectly on versions before 1.12. After I updated to this, however, any time I try to open Minecraft while my Wi-Fi is turned off, it says “Trying to Log In”, and after a few seconds, it freezes and then crashes. I cannot play any worlds like this. Is this intentional? Can you not play without logging into Xbox Live anymore? Why? Please help!
