Falling Sand & Slime Blocks - sand breaks if remotely powered

Quite difficult to put into words but when using a simple three sticky piston and three slime block sand block lifter, the sand falls back without breaking when the contraption is powered directly. However, when remotely powered by a red stone line, one sand block will break each time the slime is lowered. Remove the line and power directly and all is OK.
