Tamed cat And Lead

I had a tamed cat sitting down then I tried to put a lead on it to attach it to a dark oak fence and as soon as I put the lead on the cat while it was sitting it started moving around like it was walking but it was still in the sitting position. this stopped when I took the lead off the cat and it happened again when I reattached it.
