"Mending 1" Enchant meant doesn't work

My Nintendo Switch is currently running Version 8.0.1 and Minecraft is on version 1.11.4.

I have a world where I have a pickaxe with mending but when I collect XP, it doesn't repair the pickaxe. I checked Wikipedia and it said the Mending uses XP to repair things but Mending doesn't do anything.
