Ravengers can hit you from 3-4 blocks away

I have started to notice that Ravengers can hit people from 3-4 blocks horizontally and sometimes vertically, after getting hit and killed by one in a hardcore world, I decided to go to a creative world and test it out and I was hit about 75% of the time from 3-4 blocks horizontally. I would like to know if this is intended or not.
