textures are replaced with grey blocks on the sides

whenever i load up a world or start a new world there are parts of the blocks where on top the texture of the blocks are fine but on the sides it just has grey where the textures are suppose to be. normally this can be temporally fixed by either breaking or placing a block either in the affected area or right next to the affected area but it always reappears.
