Low sim speed on villagers / animals

Game stopped responding with constant freezes and software error pop ups. Game shut down, upon reloading World, player can interact with blocks, but enemies / villagers / animals will not interact. The world is 48mb in size. Creating a new world alleviates the problem. The village contained around 50 villagers and 50 animals.
