Parrots seem to have problems with nether portals

My peers and I were using nether portals to quickly transport pandas to our base which was 4278 blocks away the pandas had no problem going through the nether portals but when we attempted to take the parrots with us on our shoulders the portals would not activate. When a parrot gets pushed into the portal it permanently disappeared. The only way to transport the parrots was to have A peer push the parrot on to your shoulder as you are right about to go through the portal don’t think this was intentional thought I should report it
