I spawn in and my HP meter is gone.

I spawn in and my HP meter is gone. Hunger is fine. I take 1/2 heart of damage and instantly die. Even with armor. Eating an apple creates gold hearts where the red ones should be. Having diamond armor creates 2 armor points. These points can only be seen with the golden hearts. This is really frustrating and hope it is patched soon because I can no longer play survival Minecraft normally. Creative is fine.
